Certification Introduction
Like the safety certification ST COA, the Malaysian energy efficiency certification is also implemented by the Malaysian Energy Department (ST, Suruhanjaya Tenage). On May 3, 2013, ST announced the new Electricity (Amendment) Regulation 2013, which requires mandatory energy efficiency labels and minimum energy efficiency performance requirements (MEPS) for five categories of household appliances, including televisions, refrigerators, lamps, fans and air conditioners. Products that do not meet the MEPS requirements will not be allowed to be sold on the market. The formal implementation of this regulation has a one-year transition period, that is, starting from May 3, 2014, all controlled products must pass product energy efficiency tests to obtain ST COA certificates containing energy efficiency standards and affix energy efficiency marks.
Energy efficiency does not have a separate certificate, but is incorporated into the safety ST COA certificate. When applying, you must submit a safety report and an energy efficiency report at the same time. The ST COA certificate issued will include both safety and energy efficiency standards.
